Unions plan common response to the White Paper on IRA

The Trade Union Common Platform met on Thursday 25th November to define a common strategy in the context of the publication of the White Paper for a new legal framework for industrial relations in Mauritius.

The TUCP has decided to submit a common criticism and counter proposals to the government after a one day brainstorming session that is being organised on Tuesday 30 November.

The focal point of the activities of the TUCP will be the organisation of a mass meeting and demonstration on Friday 17th December in Port Louis, where delegates of all unions of Mauritius will submit our common memorandum to the government.

The aim of the demonstration will be to protest against any attempt to introduce the principle of work conditions and wages below the minimal prescribed by law in any new legislation. Unions will also be calling for the introduction of the right to strike to enshrined in the Constitution, to ensure genuine collective bargaining.

The TUCP unites the following trade union confederations and federations:
